Privacy Policy

Travelin Guru Leisure runs on curiosity — ours about the world, yours about where to go next. Running this site also means handling some of your data, so here is exactly what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. No padding, no runaround.

What We Collect

When you interact with travelinguruleisure.com, two categories of information come into play.

Information you give us directly:

  • Your name and email address if you sign up for a newsletter or submit a contact form.
  • Any message content, travel questions, or tips you send us.

Information collected automatically when you visit:

  • Your IP address and approximate location derived from it.
  • Device type, operating system, and browser.
  • Pages you view, links you click, time spent, and referring URL.
  • Timestamps and session data.

We collect the automatic data because we need to understand what content is worth your time and what needs work. That is the job.

Cookies & Similar Technology

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use them, and so do our partners. Here is the breakdown:

Strictly necessary cookies keep the site functional — page load mechanics, security, and basic session management. You cannot opt out of these and still have a working site.

Analytics cookies tell us which destinations people are reading about, how long articles hold attention, and where readers drop off. This data is aggregated and used to make editorial decisions.

Advertising cookies are set by our third-party ad partners (described below). They track browsing behavior across sites to serve you relevant ads and to measure whether those ads worked. These are the ones worth paying attention to if targeted advertising is not your thing.

You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies at the category level.

Advertising & Third Parties

Travelin Guru Leisure is supported by advertising. That is how the lights stay on and the editorial stays independent. Ads appear on our pages — display ads, programmatic ads, and occasionally sponsored content clearly labeled as such.

To make that advertising work, we work with third-party ad partners: ad networks, supply-side platforms (SSPs), demand-side platforms, and measurement vendors. These partners operate independently of us. They may:

  • Set their own cookies or use device identifiers and pixel tags on our pages.
  • Collect data about your browsing activity across multiple websites over time.
  • Use that data to build interest profiles and serve you personalized (interest-based) advertising.
  • Measure ad performance, including whether you clicked or converted.

Under US state privacy laws — including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the CPRA — some of this data sharing constitutes a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, even when no money changes hands. We do not hide from that definition.

How to opt out of interest-based advertising:

  • Use your browser's built-in privacy controls to block third-party cookies.
  • Visit the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out tool at optout.aboutads.info or the Network Advertising Initiative at optout.networkadvertising.org.
  • If you are in Europe, use Your Online Choices at youronlinechoices.eu.
  • Enable Global Privacy Control (GPC) in a supported browser or extension. We honor GPC signals as a valid opt-out of sale/sharing under applicable law.

Opting out of personalized ads does not mean you will see fewer ads — it means the ads you see will be less targeted.

Your Rights & How to Exercise Them

Depending on where you live, you have specific rights over your personal information.

EEA and UK residents (GDPR/UK GDPR):

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion ("right to be forgotten").
  • Restrict or object to processing.
  • Data portability where technically feasible.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA) and residents of other US states with applicable privacy laws:

  • Know what personal information is collected and how it is used.
  • Access and obtain a copy of your data.
  • Delete your personal information.
  • Correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising.
  • Non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.

To make any of these requests, email us at hello@travelinguruleisure.com with the subject line "Privacy Request." Tell us what you need and where you are located. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law — typically 30 to 45 days.

Retention & Security

We keep personal data only as long as it serves a legitimate purpose — generally as long as your account or newsletter subscription is active, or as required by law. Automatic log data is typically purged on a rolling basis. We use standard technical and organizational measures to protect data in transit and at rest, though no system is airtight and we will not claim otherwise.

Children

Travelin Guru Leisure is a general-audience publication, is not directed to children under 13, and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to This Policy

If something material changes, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Continued use of the site after a change means you have seen it.
